As informs “Interfax-West” agency after the talk with one of the local mayo enterprisers, “Kamako Plus”, now it is more difficult for the Belarusian mayonnaise products to compete with the imported goods.

“The product itself and its quality are quite competitive, but all local manufacturers have problems with products positioning. Market researches show that the consumers do not know the trade marks of the Belarusian mayo producers, and there is no familiar brands, - noted the speakers of the agency. It is connected with the fact that advertising budgets of the Belarusian companies for trademarks promotion are very low in comparison of those of Russia and the Ukraine, for example. In this respect native and import mayonnaises are in the different “weight categories”.”

Kamako specialists also have commented that “often foreign producers do not indicate ingredient content of their mayo and, in particular, they do not write the information about the additives and the preservatives. Considering these mayonnaises to be more natural the consumers buy them and not the products of the local enterprisers who are obliged to indicate the full list of ingredients at the package. At the same time the buyers do not think about why the shelf life of foreign mayonnaise, which depends on the preservatives and additives quantity, is 2-3 times longer than the shelf life of the Belarusian one”.

The enterpriser’s specialists noted that the price difference between Belarusian and foreign mayo reduced. “Due to price increasing for oil, the cost of Belarusian mayonnaises has grown too. The importers are still keeping their prices. Nevertheless the market share of the local mayo in Belarus still remains quite high”, - comment the speakers.
